On logging out I get no logon screen

    Hi
When I log out of a session the screen returns to a command prompt, with no logon desktop GUI. I can log into my account but am unable to start a desktop session. The only solution is to enter the "reboot" command to restart my machine.

This is a bit random and happens maybe 1 in 10 times.

It (so far) never fails when switching user accounts.

    This is my setup:-

    Operating System: Kubuntu 21.10
    KDE Plasma Version: 5.22.5
    KDE Frameworks Version: 5.86.0
    Qt Version: 5.15.2
    Kernel Version: 5.13.0-30-generic (64-bit)
    Graphics Platform: Wayland
    Processors: 12 × Intel® Core™ i5-10400 CPU @ 2.90GHz
    Memory: 7.5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® UHD Graphics 630

    Any ideas?

Does this also occur in Xorg? This shouldn't be an issue, but worth checking.

Are you saying that logging in via SDDM normally works fine, but logging off afterwards sometimes does not go back to SDDM, and that switching users works fine?

The next time you log out and don't see sddm and have a login prompt, you can try restarting it.
Log in at that command prompt.
Then enter systemctl status sddm and record what it shows. Then try this to see if the Display Manager can be (re)started: systemctl restart sddm or systemctl start sddm and see if there are any messages, or if it works.
