Why is it that this has been happening for several versions of Ubuntu and yet it has never been debugged? I use muon to update Kubuntu and then try to restart and the KSM greeter crashes. This requires me to use a konsel to sudo reboot.

I just found this link. Glad it's already been reported on launchpad.net Maybe it will get fixed. Maybe someone should ask NVIDIA to test ther drivers. It might be related to updating their driver on Ubuntu.

I don't know. The only time Nvidia has ever given me any grief is when I don't use the correct driver.
Kubuntu 20.04.1 is exceptionally stable, and except for when I've made a (very) few poor operational choices, hasn't failed me yet.The next brick house on the left
