    Can't use kpackagekit

I can't use kpackagekit to update/install. Every time I try it complains that "you do not have the necessary privileges to perform this action". I can still do things from the terminal though. Kpackagekit works fine if I launch it with kdesudo, so it must be a permission that got switched (why does Kubuntu always do that?!). Anyway I can fix this easily?

Doesn't resolve the issue. Another guy at the Ubuntu Forums can confirm the same issue after he upgraded to KDE 4.4.1 as well. I guess that's another bug in the list .

Launching it with kdesudo still works, so I guess something went wrong with permissions when the update hit. An annoyance more than anything, but nothing serious.

Works here also. Upgraded to 4.4.1 tonight. But, I still use Synaptic and/or apt-get.

                  Re: Can't use kpackagekit

Checked the permissions already and even messed around with Policykit, but no matter what settings I use kpackagekit remains messed up. It just doesn't ask for my password and gives me a "you don't have the necessary permissions" type error. Have to launch it with kdesudo for it to work, which sometimes does not work at all do to the problems with kdesudo itself.

Wondering know if you updated from 9.04 or did a fresh 9.10 install

I've read that kpackagekit was broken in 9.04, but I never really used it. I have gotten used to synaptic and think it's a great tool so I usually just install it.

Kpackagekit WAS broken for a wile in 9.04 but got a fix.

I am runing a Karmic upgraded (net) frome 9.04 to 9.10 presentley at kernel 2.6.31-20-generic KDE 4.4.1 KPackageKit-0.4.2

and it's ok............just instaled Digikam to make shure..........but to be fare it did NOT ask me for a password but let me install.......?

perhaps I was still under root permitions as I had used sudo in the CLI a few minuts befor using KPackageKit ..........you know wat I mean ......when you use sudo once if you use it agin in a serten amount of time you dont nead the pasword agin.................so mabey that was why it dident ask...............mabey
