    Need a little help with adapting old software to Kubuntu 9.10 64bit.

    This isn't do or die! My printer prints. I'm trying to troubleshoot this, more or less, as a learning experience. The software is 32bit but I was able to do a forced install for 64bit.

    A while back I found this site, ftp://download.canon.jp/pub/driver/bj/linux/, that had drivers for my Canon i950 printer. I took a guess which were the ones I'd need then made them into .deb files & tried to install. The deal is I can get the printer to print correctly (standard cups print drives made a mess!) but can't get other utilities to work. When installing pstocanonbj_3.3-1_i386.deb it sites a dependency on libcupsys2 folder which is no longer in Ubuntu/Kubuntu 9.10. The is, however, a libcups2 which bring us to this post @ Ubuntuforums, http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/inde...t-1305248.html. The dependency was moved from libcupsys2 to libcups2 & all worked. One major difference is the printers are different (his was ip1900 whereas mine is an i950) I'm wondering if I could do the same?
    If this works, I get to convert all the language in the icon photos from Japanese to English!
    This is the error I got during install in the terminal:

    dpkg: warning: overriding problem because --force enabled:
    package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)
    Selecting previously deselected package pstocanonbj.
    (Reading database ... 92959 files and directories currently installed.)
    Unpacking pstocanonbj (from pstocanonbj_3.3-1_i386.deb) ...
    dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of pstocanonbj:
    pstocanonbj depends on libcupsys2 (>= 1.2.3); however:
    Package libcupsys2 is not installed.
    dpkg: error processing pstocanonbj (--install):
    dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    pstocanonbj

    The method mentioned here might work for you, even though that printer is not the same as yours.
