amarok doesn't play audio cd's

I read on some other forum that i need to change the device to /dev/cdrom however i cannot find such a place to enter a device name...

What tells:

ls -l /dev/cd*

If you have something like:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2010-02-24 22:03 /dev/cdrom1 -> sr0

or /dev/cdrom2 or /dev/cdrom3 ...

Then it is possible that the Amarok can't find the right device.

How to fix this is told by the /etc/udev/rules.d/README. Earlier > Topic: Kaffeine "quirkiness" in karmic .

Nope, that's not the problem:

jetdrone@funstation:~$ ls -l /dev/cd*
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2010-02-25 20:38 /dev/cdrom -> sr0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 2010-02-25 20:38 /dev/cdrw -> sr0

If i insert an audio cd and go to the devices recently plugged in i see the audio cd and it says that i have 4 possible actions:

1 Extract digital audio with k3b
2 open audio cd on dolphin
3 copy with k3b
4 play audio cd with amarok
5 do nothing

I click on the 4th - play with amarok and nothing happens...
I start amarok manually and nothing happens...

BUT!!! if i do 2 - open with dolphin i can see the wav and convert to mp3 or flac or etc... and then amarok sees the audio CD!!!

This is a bug or what?!

What version of the Amarok do you have ?

The Amarok 2.3 Beta1 (2.2.2.90) should have this fixed - working here with the Lucid/KDE 4.4.0.

i am using 2.2.0 since i only have the stable reppos from kubuntu 9.10 active.

Here with the Karmic:

:~$ amarok --version
Qt: 4.5.2
KDE: 4.3.2 (KDE 4.3.2)
Amarok: 2.2.0

The Amarok can play the CD's but not from the "Device Notifier" it was fixed with the Amarok 2.3 Beta 1:

Fixed Amarok Solid action for playing audio CDs working. (BR 209204)
...

Something to try - seeking: is this the KDE or the Amarok problem.

Have you tried with the KsCD (KDE CD player) ?
If you start the KsCd from the konsole - do you get an error message ?

:~$ kscd
Query failed: Cannot read table of contents.
This CD was not found.

Or is the KsCD playing the CD's.
