    Dolphin as root

    Hi All
Since I upgraded to KDE 4.4 cannot see any files in Dolphin as root , there is a message at the bottom of the window saying :
The process for the file protocol died unepectedly.
This happens via root service menu and terminal .
    Any ideas ?
    Thanks
    Steve

      Hi dibl
I did that but there is a mass of errors come up in console and I dont think that dolphin has actually opened in root ( graphically all the icons are as normal).
Heres a segment of the errors :

        Hi

You could also try "kdesudo dolphin".

        Good luck!

I checked that on my Karmic system, and it is broken on mine too (same error as bossa sees). I haven't had time to chase the problem, but the Konsole command will work.

@bossa, I think it is a root Dolphin, nothwithstanding the spew of messages (which I also saw) -- I tested it by deleting an unneeded file in the /root directory.

However, I must say it's not the "right" way to have Dolphin running in root mode. Pending discovery of a proper fix to whatever is wrong with kdesu/kio, a better way to have a GUI file manager available for root-mode operations would be to install Krusader.

Also, please be very careful of what you do while using a file manager in root mode -- it's a very quick means of destroying a Linux system.

the issue is also present on the desktop w/ 9.10 kde 4.4,

it is also present on a vanilla lucid (upto date as of 2/11/10) applying my updates (there are a lot mostly kde related ) to see if that changes the issue on lucid... (check for edit in ~10-15min)

                        EDIT/UPDATE:
that lucid upgrade didn't go so well (killed kde &X-11) ne one know how to switch to a tty in a vm ? (it seams that crtl+alt+f<num> gets grabed by the host either way)

UPDATE2: after fixing the upgrade.. the issue still persists on an upto date (2/18/10 @6 pm est)

Yes, Lucid has the same bug. The dolphin application actually pops up if ran through kdesudo, but it doesn't show any folder.

Interesting! In Lucid, just using "sudo dolphin" works fine, and "kdesudo dolphin" doesn't!

Edit: However, this should not be done anyways!
