Hplip-3.9.10 Install problem (could not find cups-ddk development)

    OK, this is ridiculous! >

I installed the HPLIP-3.9.10 all-in-one printer services manager yesterday. Everything went OK with the install but there was one WARNING about the cups-ddk or ddks library not being located. The HP toolbox/print manager is working but I'm getting the error "cups filter missing". Yeah, cups did not get included into the mix.

So, what's the fix to this? I found a forum topic yesterday that I believe addressed this, but now I cannot find it. Even though, it was long and drawn out. As I remember, it gave two methods for fixing the problem. One was > apt-get install "blah, blah, blah... about a 100 modules etc...

...and the other.... I forgot. Anyway, no print workey!

Someone throw me a lifeline here!

    Since posting, I did a > hp-check -t

In the log file it said to do the following after the "cups" warning.

'sudo aptitude install --assume-yes cupsddk cupsddk-drivers'

I believe I did this yesterday with no positive result.

Well, I think I'm good now.

Here is what I believe happened. First, I don't have a multi-function printer, just a deskjet940c, so that confused me to begin with. I was assuming that this driver utility was going to seamlessly integrate printing, faxing, and scanning with separate peripherals. Maybe it helps but I haven't gone that far to see how it would. Anyway.... the HPLIP device manager installed a deskjet940c printer automatically and that did not work. I added a new printer (i.e. Deskject940c) and everything works fine.

I don't know about the "cupsddk" warning message in the install script? I guess it doesn't matter now unless I install a multi-function printer. Maybe it's gone??

    > hp-check -t

should give me some indication of the health of things.
