Fresh install on HP Pavilion dv4 1125n

    Congratulations, Kubuntu team!

After learning Kubuntu for a couple of months in an old Toshiba Satellite I decided to quit Windows and installed 9.10 64-bit on my working laptop described above.

Not to my surprise, EVERYTHING worked out as expected: all components were properly recognized and the correct drivers installed; the same applies to the software I got used to - GIMP, Kdenlive, VirtualBox (yes - I still need Windows for internet banking...), Firefox, Stellarium, Skype, Inkscape, XSane, Audacity, LightScribe and Twinkle to name a few.

Since I'm not a Linux expert, my only complain is that Samba - both server and client - is not installed by default.

My compliments to all for this superb product.

I meant the Samba icon in the System Settings.

        Thanks for the hint anyway

I agree that linux is much safer, but it needs an ActiveX control...

bummer, about that active X control, but you could try url=http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Main_Page]IEs4Linux[/url] perhaps that will free you of the need to start a virtual machine in order to get your banking done..

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't work: the bank's webpages require IE 7 or later...

There are so many sane and platform independent solutions, one example:

I agree, but I MUST have an account on this bank...
