Upgrade Report from Jaunty To Karmic

i just started my upgrade to Karmic. This Thread is intended to be a report of the upgrade

    Machine Hardware:
    mobo: asus M4a79 Deluxe
Cpu : Amd Phenom II 940 BE @ 3.0GHZ (quad core)
    RAM: 4GB ddr2 1066mhz
    video card: Raideon 4830HD 512mb
    hd: 500 gb sata II hd w/ 3 partitions, / ~80gb , swap 2gb /home rest of drive.
other: generic bluetooth adaptor(usb), ati tv wonder capture card(via pci slot)

    Os Info,
Kubuntu 9.04 64-bit running kde 4.3.1 and ati drivers most current version.
every thing currently works just fine....

, upgrading... had 20 packages to remove. 200 ish to install and about 1600 to upgrade , this is gonna take a bit to fetch the packages. will be back to update this post after the upgrade finishes.

well after a long time of downloading packages it finished and restarted...

the inital boot went good untill x loaded.. my xorg.conf was looking for a bad driver. so i just copyed a old copy of xorgs failsafe and restarted and loged in .. sadly i am stuck at a low res of 1280x1024 using vesa right now , but a bit of tweaking should do good. installing the ati driver for this card now yeilds a blue and black screen (version from ati's site),

i then restarted again with the failsafe xorg. to try installing the driver via jockey and now i have about 100 konqurer taskes being run and lots of bugs notification tasks...opening all the time . . so i suspose its time for some post install work on my video.

after installed the video drivers with jockey-gtk (jockey-kde seams to do nothing at all). my video is working correctly
