(DONE)Helix player installed successfully but application will not launch

Yesterday I installed Helix Player via synaptic. When attempting to launch the application there is an unsuccessful attempt to load. Anyone have any ideas how to get Helix up & running? Not much in the forums or elsewhere concerning this issue. Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

you can check in synaptic the name of the executable (it is in the "installed files" list for the package, just right click on it). Then, run "konsole" and try to launch it from there ... it won;t work, but it might give a clue why!

This may be too much info, but I have ran Helix from Konsole. This is the error message I received. I am rather new to Linux and the command line, I love them both and I'm learning alot. But would someone please help me understand the meaning of this error and how to respond?

Ah, this is a hard crash, I was hoping it was bad packaging. There is a bug report for this:
        https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...er/+bug/325001

In the short run you can't do much. If you need to play realmedia, most likely it will play fine on vlc (or some of the other big media players) after installing the restricted formats (kubuntu-restricted-extras package). See here:

          Imiliano,

Thanks for the help. I have installed the (kubuntu-restricted-extras package). I am able to run xine media player. Wanted to install helix, compare it to xine, and see which I liked best for playing videos. I guess that won't be possible until I get a fix for Helix.

I ask for your patience with my lack of OS administration knowledge. I am growing more and more as I continue to explore Linux, programming, the OS as a whole, and how the system works.

I have been visiting this particular site to get alot of my LINUX & OS info:
          http://www.linux-tutorial.info/index.php

Do I wait & see if this particular bug issue is resolved & then reinstall or update Helix? I still would like to run it on my system if I can in the future.

            Hi

Sure, you can register in launchpad and subscribe to the bug, then you'll get updates. In my experience, the most reliable media player is vlc (I tried them all :-) )
