kmail and Windows Live Mail

Hello,
I have had a windows live account for a long time and would like to keep it. Recently Windows live has offered pop3 settings which work in Kmail. However, when this is implemented the program downloads all mail as new, no matter what the state of the message in the server, i.e. read or unread. Now I would kmail to show the state of the email on the mail server. I would also like my online folders, i.e. sent, junk, inbox... etc to be download as well. I understand IMAP does all this, but I have no idea how configure this, as it hasn't worked when tried.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Until and unless windows live supports imap, you won't be able to do this at all, iirc. From what I could see, Live mail is basically web-based email client ie, you can add in external email accounts, for example), and it (may) be using hotmail for its own email, and that does not support imap from what I can see.
