    Can't connect wired network

After upgrading to 9.04 I found I lost my wired internet connection. After trying to use Knetwork-Manager, I decided to dump it and try manual configuration in /etc/network/interfaces and /etc/resolv.conf, but as it didn't work after several tries, I commented most of the entries in /etc/network/interfaces.

So I jumped to my mother's laptop and begun surfing for info. I found that network-manager in Kubuntu 9.04 was flawed, and that wicd was recommended as substitute, so I downloaded it from this forum link to the Kubuntu repositories and transferred the file with a usb pendrive. The installation of wicd required the removal of network-manager, so I did it.

Now wicd negotiates without problem with my router, and gets a dynamic IP, but I still can't navigate. I tried both receiving the DNSs from the router or manually configuring them as fixed in wicd, still no navigation.

I temporarily flushed iptables rules and reverified that ufw wasn't acting on it's own after the upgrade, still no navigation.

I'm running out of ideas, can anyone suggest something else I forgot to do?

    Re: Can't connect wired network

Can you ping hosts using numeric IP addresses? Both local and on the internet? In your case of wired only you might be better off to not run wicd and use the /etc/network/interfaces method. Now that you have removed network-manager it will no longer try to take over your ethernet and that should work. This has the added advantage that it will run all the if-up.d scripts.
