Problem with logging in to kubuntu 9.04

I tried to upgrade from Kubuntu 8.04 to 9.04. When the upgrade process was done, everything was a big mess, nothing worked and so on.. so i burned the livecd and installed the 9.04 from there. Then it was okay, worked just fine. Several times i turned the computer off and then logged in again. But today, suddenly I can't log in. This is coming up:

    Ubuntu 9.04 ingel[it's my name]-laptop tty2
    ingel-laptop login:
    password:

whatever I type there, this message comes up:

    login incorrect
    localhost.localdomain login:
    password:

I don't get it ! And why Ubuntu though I have kubuntu..
    Anyone knows any solutions ?

Not a solution, but a suggestion: I would boot in rescue mode, and choose the option to repair graphics. Please see if that fixes it.

As for the text login (hopefully you won't need it), do you know your username and password? If you do, remember that this info is case sensitive, if the CAPS LOCK IS ON it won't work, or if you Capitalized your user name you need to be consistent, etc.

    Thanks!

I tried this recovery mode.. but it didn't fix the problem. The only username and password I know are the ones I use to log on in normal way, but these don't work..

Ok, I tried again to use my username and password, but then came several lines of this message:

        -bash /dev/null/: Permission denied

and then this, like in konsole:

        ingel@ingel-laptop:~$

If you are sure there is no new hardware and/or software since the time this was working, it must be some hardware issue. Maybe some partial disk failure? There is an option in the recovery mode to check the disk (to run the fsck utility). You may want to try that ...

Well, i don't think it's necessary anymore, because now it's ok again. I turned the computer off once more and when turning it on again, everything was fine
            But thanks anyway.

wow, this has to be hardware. Anyway, you can always do a filesystem check, it never hurts Glad you are back up!
