Audio works on ubuntu, but not on kubuntu

Hi,

Up until a few weeks back I had a working ubuntu environment on my Sony Vaio VGN-FW31ZJ, but I decided to remove ubuntu and install kubuntu.

In Ubuntu I didn't have any problems at all concerning audio or video, but in kubuntu my audio doesn't work.

At startup a message appears that my audio device couldn't be started up...

Does anybody have an idea of what might be wrong?

For starters, go in to System Settings > Multimedia > Audio and take a look at the device list. Whatever is on top isn't working, so move something else up to the top position and restart your GUI.
