"overwhelmed, but no glassy looking thing" [SOLVED]

I am liking KDE4.2 more and more each day. But I do not know if I have deleted the "glassy looking thing" that is called the "Desktop Folder" from my desktop. I cannot remember if it was there in the beginning --- at the time I was overwhelmed. Can I get it back somehow?

    yes you can ...
click on the "cashew" in the top right corner or your desktop and select "add widget"

the widget you want to add is called "Folder view" it should default to show your desktop folder

now if you don't want desktop behavor like kde3.5 you have to right click on your desktop and select "apperance" look for the desktop behavor area (i think that what its called) there are only two options one will show icons on your desktop the other will not ....

either way you can still use the folder view widget (you can set the dir it looks at by mousing over it and waiting for the handle then click on the wench looking icon to config)

Yes, thank you --- I get the widget in the panel. But I do not get the "glassy looking thing transparent thing" on the desktop.

... oops ... I got it --- sorry. I think I just did not notice the borders of the glassy desktop folder --- I like it. Thanks for the help, sithlord.

Not at my linux box right now so terms might be off but....

Right click anywhere on the desktop and pick unlock widgets and then appearance settings.

Towards the top of the resulting box you will see a view box. You can select either desktop or folder view. Select folder view. A folder containing your home directory will appear on the desktop. if you want to see the desktop folder, right click on the folder that has appeared, and select folder view settings. You can change it to show the desktop icons then.

Then ensure you right click on the desktop again and select "lock widgets". If you don't a keystroke in the wrong place at the wrong time can delete something.

By the way, as your issue is now msolved, please could you edit your first posting so it shows in the summary?

--- thanks Liquidator, I managed. I agree it is a good habit to keep the widgets locked after working on them --- I once lost my beloved panel by accident.
