Cant open RAR files with ark???

When I open a rar file with ark it is empty.

For openSUSE 11.1 I had to install a rar package but I do not know if it is the same thing for kubuntu because it said that the package was a 40 day shareware trial.

    Install the package unrar

You are correct, Ark doesn't open .rar files correctly.

      Works great! Thanks...

Am I the only one that thinks it is ridiculous that Ark does not ship with RAR support natively and even more ridiculous that Adept does not show the unrar package. Thus if one did not know to install synaptics and find unrar they would ...my mind hurts.

that can be separated to two problem:
        1. ark should display a prompt that rar or unrar is not installed.
        2. IANAL, but RAR is proprietary and it license is probably not quite compatible with GPL.

I cannot speak to the issue of GPL compatibility, but the UnRAR sourcecode is licensed freeware.
