Re: returning to 8.04....
Originally posted by andreasj64well, it's definitely something to do with the graphics adapter. it works in safe graphics mode off the live CD, but I can't get failsafe to work off the hard drive. any clue how to permantley put my system into this safe graphics mode state?
By "can't get failsafe to work", do you mean that selecting the recovery option from Grub doesn't bring you to the command line? The next brick house on the left

Re: returning to 8.04....
I am as well at least until major improvements are done. As I've mentioned in another post 8.10 is the first Linux install I've done that X locks up my system randomly and so tightly my ONLY option is to kill the power. Locks keyboard, mouse, once it made me pull my a/c cable and battery.
8.10 feels like I'm running Windows again with the freezing and crashing, as well as the lack of access to basic graphic changes (adapter/monitor settings) without having to edit conf files manually It is actually worse than Windows!
Shuttleworth wanted Ubuntu to be more Windows like......it appears he's attained his goal with 8.10......

Re: returning to 8.04....
ditto here devlin...this release has been the only Linux distribution that has not worked for me no matter what attempts I make...and on 3 seperate computers. Tried thru adept, dvd and cd live. Will continue with 8.04.1 until maybe an 8.2 surfaces
