    Vaio Brightness Issues

    howdy..

Kubuntu's running great on my sony vaio VGN-FW290 (ATI HD 3650) except for the brightness. I can't adjust it through the Fn keys or though
    Code:
    /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
i've looked all over and haven't found a solution.. anybody have one??

    Thanks!

    Re: Vaio Brightness Issues

Check the package spicctrl in Adept Manager or Synaptic.
Sony Vaio controller program to set LCD backlight brightness

spicctrl is a small program that can use the Sony Programmable I/O Control
device (SPIC), which is part of Sony Vaio's, to do a few simple things.
Currently, it can only be used to control the brightness on the LCD
backlight, and print out some information about the battery.

You need a kernel with the sonypi module (and a Vaio laptop..) to use this
    program.

      Re: Vaio Brightness Issues

      thanks for quick reply =)

i couldn't find spicctrl in any of the package managers, so i compiled it.. but apparently I need the sonypi module (like you quoted).. but according to http://www.linux.it/~malattia/wiki/index.php/Sonypi it's been replaced by sony-laptop (which i have loaded)..

not sure what to try next..

      Thanks!
