The 6.0svn in the repositories is pretty unstable.

Then you aren't using a version designed for *buntu Hardy. According to Kdenlive's own web site,
No mention of 0.6.0-svn is made there.Ubuntu Hardy 8.04
Kdenlive 0.5 packages are available at http://packages.ubuntu.com/intrepid/kdenlive. DO NOT USE THEM, NO SUPPORT PROVIDED!
This version of Kdenlive is too old.
At this time no 0.7.5 package of Kdenlive is available for Ubuntu Hardy. Building such package will be difficult due to old package versions of Kdenlive dependencies.
It is strongly recommended to update to Ubuntu Jaunty or wait until October 2009 for Karmic.Windows no longer obstructs my view.

Hmm. The snapshot clearly says 0.6.0-svn. Open a console and type:
What version is reported?Code:apt-cache show kdenlive | grep Version

Yeah. I've run into that myself - The GUI shows a version that differs from package version. Go figure.
As to your original statement/question, what specifically are you experiencing? Also, what are the specs on your PC - CPU type and speed, amount of system RAM, and video card make/model?
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
