Google earth disapears after splash screen

Several have mentioned this, but I see no "solved"

Used Adept, and the hardy medibuntu repository. Tried both 4.2 and 4.3.
Possible other effect, may have broken url links in email (Thunderbird), which happened -maybe- at the same time as GE install.

    Anybody?

See my last post on this thread:

    Maybe that will fix it.

Re: Google earth disapears after splash screen

I had that problem on mine, Googleearth did not recognize the video driver and shut down. I was having problems with the Nvidia install using envyng-core installation (envyng -t) at the time and was using the generic video setup with ubuntu/kubuntu. Once the Nvidia driver was installed properly on my system GoogleEarth was happy again and all was well.

        Getting negatives here..

Dibl: After doing the cache at \root thing, no change: Splash holds for 4 seconds, no error indications, then poof! no sign of GE.

Pajoe: Video is ATI Xpert 128, not Nvidia, and (except possible for this GE thing) runs fine on some built-in driver in Kubuntu.

Of course, maybe that is the problem, I should look for an ATI driver... ??

        Thanking you,
