At seemingly random times Knetwork Manager will drop my wireless connection and refuse to detect wireless networks until I restart the computer. This is a bit of a bother, is there a way to reset just the network manager without restarting the computer?

I quit using Knetwork app's completely and went to 'wicd' instead.
I've had better luck with it.
