Resume from standby fails after updating to kernel 2.6.24-17/18

Standby worked fine with the kernel 2.6.24-16 that my Kubuntu 8.04 64 bit originally came with. I have a Shuttle XPC with Intel Quad Core. After the kernel upgrade the system hangs when trying to resume from standby.

Thanks, I only use standby (suspend), not hibernation, therefore the swap file shouldn't matter? What happens is that the hdd light goes on for a while but the screen is never even turned back on.
