    Skype video problems on AMD64

Problems starting video on Skype 2.0.0.68 on an AMD64 bit 4000 running Kubuntu 8.04 with a Creative Webcam Nx Pro (N10225 Model No. PD1130).

When entering skype in konsole and moving to Options, Video Devices, Test... no results are returned. And CPU spikes. Creative Nx Pro webcam is recognized at /dev/video1/ as indicated by Skype under "Select webcam:".

    Konsole returns the following:
    Starting the process...
Skype Xv: Xv ports available: 32
    Skype XShm: XShm support enabled
Skype Xv: Using Xv port 48
Skype Xv: No suitable overlay format found

Skype video worked previously with this webcam with this same computer running Mepis 7.0 64bit. Under Kubuntu, skype works but without video.

Webcam works using " camorama --device=/dev/video1 " in konsole but not without indicating /dev/video1. But that should not be a problem as Skype gives the option of using the Nx Pro as /dev/video1.

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Which kernel are you using? There was a conflict in an older version (I think 2.6.22) that prevented 32-bit apps (like Skype) to access video hardware on 64bit systems.

Also, where did you install Skype from? If it was installed from skype.com, you could try removing it and installing from Medibuntu.

      Output of

      schult@DGS:~$ uname -a
      Linux DGS 2.6.24-19-generic #1 SMP Wed Jun 4 15:10:52 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

And Skype installed from medibuntu repositories. Should I try to reinstall or try the Skype-static version?
