    clock settings grayed out

i've just installed K 8.04. i'm also new to linux, so getting around is a little different from what i'm used to. i went into system settings> date/time, to change my clock settings and all the options are grayed out, therefore not allowing me to change anything. i don't see any admin/root option for me to get into a root session.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks in advance.
