splash screen boot as an option?

I was wondering if there was a way to add an option to not add the "quiet splash" to the grub menu.lst entries every time it is changed.

Maybe this is just me, but I like to watch the boot process, and change the menu.lst every time it is updated. I know this is a small thing, but an option would be wonderful.

All you need to do is edit (as root) your /boot/grub/menu.lst file and make one change in the following section:

## additional options to use with the default boot option, but not with the
## alternatives
## e.g. defoptions=vga=791 resume=/dev/hda5
# defoptions=splash quiet <<<< Change this line to the following:

# defoptions=

Save the file. This line removes the 'default options' that are added to each bootable kernel line in the file.

Personally I'd like to see an entire section in systems settings dedicated to things related to start up. Including;
Setting the splash screen.
Toggling quiet splash.
Choosing the default boot entry in the grub menu.
A button to reconfigure grub (to find any new OSes you may have recently installed).
A configurable list of the apps/processes to be run on startup.
I'm sure others can thing of a few other things that might be good in here.

I would imagine it replacing the current 'splash screen' entry, with a title along the lines of 'startup settings'. Personally I'm very comfortable doing most of the above from the command line nowadays but I think it would help a fair bit for new users by eliminating some of the major tasks that they might want to accomplish that can currently only be done using the command line to edit text files (specifically setting the default boot entry in grub).
