KNetworkmanager refuses to save manual settings

    Greetings.

I've set up Kubuntu on my home machine. So far I've had few problems.

The biggest issue I'm having is that KNetworkManager refuses to save manual interface settings.

I can set the IP, gateway et al manually after booting, and the interface maintains these settings until the next reboot.

The same thing happens regardless of how the KNetworkManager interface is reached [via tray icon, System Settings, etc.].

What appears to be the real problem is that K/Ubuntu's "automagic" configuration wipes the settings and resets things to full auto after every single boot. Needless to say, this is extremely annoying. I have not personally experienced this problem with Kubuntu before [going back to 5.10].

I've tried searching for a solution to this issue, and while I can find bug reports describing this problem [going all the way back to 2006] I have yet to find any actual solution.

If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, Knetworkmanager and manual settings do not go together...

If you are wired there is absolutely no need to run any networkmanager - I don't...

Re: KNetworkmanager refuses to save manual settings

Not to be daft, but if this is really the case, why do they bother having an option to manually set it?

Rather disingenuous, to say the least.

Of course, my next questions if this is indeed the case...

Now that the GUI method of changing these settings is apparently incapable of doing its job, how do I:

      1) disable knetworkmanager [since it loads on boot, appears to do so separately from its tray icon, and from what I can see lacks any means through the KDE control panels to disable it]

      2) manually set up the NIC [which I can learn how to do on my own, it's just REALLY annoying to have to learn how to do this when the GUI tool evidently should do it, but doesn't].

      Sigh.

        Good point.

knetworkmanager is know to be buggy and has know to be buggy for ages. But who am I to moan, I can't write any code in C++ and am having difficulties with bash at times...
