screen resolution can't be changed

I just started using Kubuntu 8.04 with KDE 4. I am not able to adjust screen resolution using system settings. I tried launching system settings as root (using sudo and the command) and it still did not allow me to change screen resolution. The apply key did not light up. How do I change screen resoulution using command-line in a terminal?

    Any help much appreciated!

Re: screen resolution can't be changed

Are you using a proprietary driver like the nVidia driver or fglrx for ATI?

If so, you'll need to use your appropriate settings programme (it's nvidia-settings for nvidia, not sure for ATI, but have a look in your menu).

Re: screen resolution can't be changed

Since the computer is at work and I am at home for a long weekend and then jury duty on Tuesday, I will not be able to answer your question, sorry! I can tell you that the computer is a pentium 4, 1.7 GHz which is useless information (?). Whatever video card it is, it is recognized by Window XP and by Kubuntu KDE 3. That's about all I can tell you right now.

Re: screen resolution can't be changed

I have "NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE" (http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3098176.0) and cannot go more than 800x600. The propritary driver makes it even less than that (640x480)....

This goes for Ubuntu and Kubuntu (started up a KDE session today).

Previous versions did not do this. I tried an Ubuntu 6.10 live CD and it was perfect.
        My Local Repository
Forums I am active on
Please help me with this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
