    Kontact Crashing

Is anybody else finding the new updates to KDE4-PIM causing problems? When I now open Kontact and click on "mail" it opens a brand new Kmail window rather than opening inside Kontact. I cannot navigate back to Kontact from this new window.

Also if you click on Kontact "Settings" and try to configure the options it crashes with the following message:
    A Fatal Error Occurred
The application Kontact (kontact) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV).

I've tried purging Kontact, KDE4-PIM and Kmail and re-installing; same problems. Any ideas? There are similar BUG reports but not exactly the same.

    Re: Kontact Crashing

    Hi Everyone,

Seem to have cured the crashing by removing and re-installing the whole of Kontact/PIM/Kmail etc . But now I have another problem. All my incoming mail is re-directed to Wastebin and not to Inbox. > I've tried all sorts of things but cannot cure this (including removing all the mail files from .kde4). There must be some other configuration file somewhere. Does anyone know of a way to reset all the settings of kmail/pim to some default values other than the default values in the configure button - changing that doesn't seem to change where the mail goes to. Please HELP!! it's very annoying having mail delivered to the wastebin on arrival!

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions! Thanks

afaik you open kmail - settings - configure kmail - select Accounts - modify account - second drop down box from bottom asks you where incoming mail should be sent, select inbox

      Repeat for all your accounts.

        Re: Kontact Crashing

Thanks for that! Had already tried it >. I do not know what I did to trash Kontact (I had been cleaning with "fslint") but the solution for me (just completed) was to delete my .kde4 folder (actually moved to a different drive) then restart the machine. After KDE then generated all new setup data I selectively copied over or imported address book data, organiser files and mail folders. I also re-set all my mail settings in the new version and re-set all the Spam and Virus-checking filters. All is now working perfectly . From other posts it seems that sometimes (after several Updates have modified the system) it's a good thing to start with a fresh .kde4 folder (after backing up, of course).

Well done for sorting it out! Yes, I'm also a proponent of ditching my .kde folder at times Purely out of interest, of course 8)
