Something I felt worth sharing.
I updated to KDE4.1 from KDE4.0 but when I booted up I got error "Plasma Workspace crashed and caused signal 11 (SIGSEGV)" with black screen. >
Searching I found the following which resolved my problem on https://bugs.kde.org. Go to Bug 159717.
Comment from Markus Grob was "remove your ~/.kde/share/config/plasma-appletsrc and try again."
Reboot and success. Wow I am big time impressed with 4.1
