KDE 4.0.4/4.0.3 Conflict (messed up icons)

I upgraded to 4.0.4 last week by following the instructions from kubuntu.org:

The packages are in hardy-backports, available from Adept Manager when you choose Unsupported Updates from the Updates tab of Manage Repositories, kubuntu-kde4-desktop and do a full upgrade.

In the meantime there were some security updates and now most of the icons and images in KDE are messed up (e.g. the 'Start menu' button displays an arrow instead of the 'K' KDE logo).

When I check the version in Dolphin it says KDE 4.0.3 (it did say 4.0.4 after the upgrade).

So how can I fix this? Can I reinstall 4.0.4 and how?

    TIA!

I have the messed up icons, and all other issues you reported, but I thought it was because I installed an alternate Icon theme...hmmmm....I'll have to look into this further.

I 'fixed' this by going back to a backup of 4.0.3.

Still it would be insteresting to know if you can actually downgrade an installation.
