I have noticed that gtk apps that run with root permissions such as synaptic will not use the KDE theme. I am using qtcurve for KDE. I have set the options in kcontrol for gtk apps to use my KDE themes and fonts. I have installed gtk2-engines-qtcurve, kde-style-qtcurve, qtcurve, gtk2-engines-gtk-qt, gtk-engines-qtpixmap, and gtk-qt-engine. GTK apps still refuse to use qtcurve. Does anyone know what is causing this?

Re: GTK apps in Kubuntu Hardy 3.5.9 not using KDE theme
Originally posted by 67GTAI meant that I have all of them installed, not that I installed all of them.
basically I was asking if you compiled gtk-qt engine yourself rather than installing kubuntu's package ... but probably you didn't
just a random thought - what if you run "kdesudo kcontrol" and setup gtk look there?

Re: GTK apps in Kubuntu Hardy 3.5.9 not using KDE theme
I think we are both lost I installed them from the repos. A couple of them were installed already. I normally won't compile from source unless there is no other option. I've actually tried logging in as root and changing the settings with no effect. I've checked all of the gtk/qt theme files in my /home with no success. It is beyond my expertise. Someone actually posted a bug about it with very little attention: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/200612 and a thread started on the Ubuntu forums that went nowhere: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=637729Klaatu Barada Nikto

That gives me an error:
shawnr@fastback:~$ sudo rm -r /root/.*
rm: cannot remove `.' directory `/root/.'

Yeah, it's a minor annoyance, but it drives me crazy knowing there is some line of code in an obscure config file somewhere that's causing it and I can't find itKlaatu Barada Nikto

Re: GTK apps in Kubuntu Hardy 3.5.9 not using KDE theme
Just for kicks, I installed gconf-editor, and changed the metacity theme to qtcurve. /apps/metacity/general/theme was set to use Clearlooks. It didn't make any difference. I couldn't find that folder in /home/gconf.Klaatu Barada Nikto
