F1-F12 Keys on USB Keyboard connected to Laptop

    Hi,

I'm using Kubuntu 8.04 with KDE 3.5 on a Lenovo Z61p (ThinkPad), Xorg version is whatever is current for Hardy. I also have compiz enabled and working nicely.

After my Windows install collapsed under its' own weight I'm using this install for work, and mostly everything works except the below:

When using an additional USB keyboard (a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000) the function keys (I mean F1- F12, I'm not worried about the "multimedia" keys do not work on the USB keyboard. This is extremely annoying as this is a nice keyboard and the program I use in my daily work (Dynamics NAV) absolutely requires them to work efficiently

The function keys work on on the laptop itself, but this is not comfortably for constant typing.

Any help would be appreciated, I have good Linux experience in many areas and I'm at home in a xterm with vim so don't worry if the answer is technical - I feel like I *should* be able to figure this out myself, but I've just not had an issue like this where it works on the laptop but not the external one and I am a bit stuck.

    Thanks,

    Charlie

Ok for reasons unknown to me, after using Krandr in a attempt to get my second monitor working (then giving up on this because it didn't work) - the usb keyboard now works correctly.

So i guess it was an X configuration issue.
