Adwise About Purchase of Dell Vostro Laptop

    Hi,

I already have a Dell Latitude C840 and I am Using
XP and Kubuntu in Dual Boot. My Most of the activities
are now on Linux And I use XP for very few.

Now I have decided to go for a new Laptop since current one
is almost 6 Yr Old and showing symptoms of wear and Tear.
I plan to use VMWare/Virtual BOX on Kubuntu for my XP activities.
I have fixed following configuration according to My Budget.

    "Dell VOSTRO 1510 Laptop (n-Series)
    E-VALUE CODE : R521003IN8 "

    "Intel Core 2 Duo T5670
    1.8 GHz, 2MB Cache, 800 MHz FSB"

    DOS Factory Loaded
    15.4" WXGA+ 1440 x 900
    2 GB (2 x 1024) 667 Mhz DDR 2
160 GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD
    "Slot Load 8x DVD R/W DVD+R
    Double Layer Write (8.5 GB)"
    GE Force 8400M GS 256MB 64bit
    Wire Less 1385 802.11 G 54 mbps

Can Somebody tell me whether Kubuntu (Upcoming Release)
will work with this one ? How do u feel the Idea of Using VMware/virtualbox ?
will it be useful or again Dual Boot is Better Option ?
Will the specs give good response time or
Is there any modification required ? (I can stretch budget to small extent)
Does anybody using KUbuntu on similar machine ? His
    experience will be very valuable.

I have not talked to any sale executive and have collected
budgetary prices from Dell Web pages. After receiving adwise
from this forum I will contact dell sales agent.

BTW can somebody suggest me about where Can I get
    Hardware compatibility Information For Kubuntu.

    Thanks and Best Regards.

I cannot answer all those questions as I don't have comparable hardware but using vmware player is deffinately advisable.

I use it for all my adobe stuff.

You can make a copy of your existing XP:
    http://www.howtoforge.com/vmware_con..._windows_linux

or download a trial of vmware workstation and install a new version.

either way there is plenty of help here for that.

The only I could see would be your video card. Maybe you should post a new thread with your card in conjunction with Intrepid as the title.

Sorry I can't be of more help

Well I can't say about that laptop but my company switched over to Dell from IBM and I am not a fan of Dell.
Plug in 4 USB devices and they fail to work not enough power to run them. They are D630s and suck.

There is far better and cheaper out there.

For home I run an IBM T43 with a P4 1.86 cpu 2gb ram, and an ATI vid card. I use VirtualBox for my XP and they run great together.

So based on what you list it should work, but I hate Dell. I would not by any laptop with an intel vid card. Some like Nvi, some like ATI I have both and run compiz no all my machines. I have 1 with an Intel vid and it dose not run compiz well.
