So I was trying to get 3D cube working yesterday, and I installed compiz and ran a command in the terminal (I forget which; I think it was compiz --(something)). The cube didn't work, but I still kept it.
That's when the sound stopped coming out of the speakers connected to my laptop. I thought it was a sound card problem so I did the whole remove and reinstall alsa thing (it worked before), but it didn't work. Then I thought maybe it had something to do with compiz, so I removed compize and compiz-core.
Result: now my system, when the external speakers are disconnected, makes a constant high tone which is extremely annoying, I can't get the sound to work right, and to top it all off my desktop settings appear to have gone weird. The top part of every window (the blue bar with the close, minimize buttons) don't show up, and I can't type anything in the terminal (it does run) or get into Adept (the password screen won't accept keyboard input). Any ideas on how to fix this??
