I've been trying to get the microphone working off-and-on for about a year now. Today I've finally given up on autonomous search and ask for your help here.
The computer in question is a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi 1556. I have tried the following things:
My Kmix and alsamixer status is shown in the attached screenshot.
Any help would be greatly appreciated - especially from people who had similar problems with this or related type of laptop.

- adjusted the input and output microphone volumes in KMix,
- adjusted the input and output volumes in alsamixer (the console app),
- tips from this page, including:
- changing the options in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base
- fiddling with the volume settings in alsamixer
- installing the latest alsa package, which seems to be irrelevant with 8.04.
