A couple of simple KDE4 configuration issues

    Hi everybody,
I'm using KDE3.5, from time to time I log with a KDE4 session in order to try this new environment.

First question: is it possible to reduce the desktop icon size? I have big icons all over the desktop (they have been imported from my KDE3.5 desktop), but it seems there is no way to reduce their size

Second question: some time ago, after an update, the updater asked if I want to use KDE3 window manager or KDE4 new window manager "as default": since I use KDE3, I chose the KDE3 one... how can I choose to use the KDE4 window manager, when I start a KDE4 session?

    Thanks!

Hmmmmm -- 8 hours, no answer.

I'm not big on desktop icons -- I just added 'em all up and I have exactly one. However, I suspect you're suffering from some "Next Generation Desktop" feature. So try System Settings > Appearance > Style and and then on the Style tab it looks like you can start un-checking things and maybe get the icon and its associated text to change. Maybe ....

On the KDE3 vs. KDE4 question, the past week has been a plague of problems reported by folks trying to run both desktops side by side and switching back and forth. I personally just switched to KDE4 about a month ago and only used KDE3 once when I had a X server crash problem. But I have the distinct impression that the two KDEs are not as separate as one would assume, and there seems to be some cross-KDE interference. When you log into KDE4, you might try Alt-F2 "kwin --replace", to get back the correct window decorations, but I dunno -- no guarantees on that. HTH

I can confirm the cross interference, but I like Dibl decided to use just the one, KDE4. A lot of that, I think, is due to, at least on GG which I'm using currently for KDE4, that they allowed KDE3 to run some KDE4 apps and KDE4 to run KDE3 apps, the latter probably being the biggest culprit. Either way, that is why I will be redoing my desktop with HH Remix. To get everything in order and to not look back.
