    Explain how getlibs works

I used this tip to install skype on my kubunu 7.10 amd64 and worked perfectly:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=432295

But i wanna know why this works, specially the command "getlibs".

    Can somebody explain o me?

    Thank you

Getlibs isn't a command. It's just a .deb package that contains libraries necessary to support Skype on the 64 bit architecture.

The last step of the tutorial is:

      sudo getlibs /usr/bin/skype

      So, it is a command!
Is it specific for sype? And what does it do?

        Re: Explain how getlibs works

Oh you're right. The package getlibs-all.deb installs an executable called "getlibs".

I found this "getlibs: Automatically solves dependencies for 32-bit programs on 64-bit"

          Re: Explain how getlibs works

Thank you, the link you posted explains everything.

And this "getlibs" is really impressive! It is the solution for he amd64 problem of "no package available yet" :-P
I am gonna test it with some packages and post here the results.

If somebody already did it with anything else skype, tell us.
