Swapping One Linux Distro For Another. Possible?

Is it a big deal to switch to Edgy from 7.10? Would I have to reinstall everything? Let me add another question - what if I want to switch to a different distro all-together. For example, switch to Slax or ZenWalk (light weight distros). Would I have to wipe my Kubuntu partition clean before installing? Keep in mind that I do not have enough space for another Linux partition. I only have about 20 gigs free (80 gig drive, 50 gigs owned by XP, 30 gigs by LInux.)

    Thanks,

    M

Multi-installation of OSs on a system is common. The limiting factor is HD space. 20g 'available' is probably sufficient for another linux installation.

So, would I set up another partition which would then be 3 partitions on the same drive? Also, Ubuntu and Kubuntu use the same kernel so is it necessary to install them separately or can I install both OS in the same partition and share the kernel?

        Question 1: Yes.
Question 2: Not required. If you want to also utilize Ubuntu (Gnome) you only need to install the ubuntu-desktop package via Adept Manager or in a console with sudo apt-get ubuntu-desktop

The installation of the ubuntu-desktop package will enable you to select either the KDE or GDM (Gnome) Desktop when you are at your loggin screen by selecting the session type to run.
