    Firestarter & Streams

    Hi.

I've started using Firestarter (somewhat out of interest I must admit) and I've found it interferes with Amarok when it attempts to access Shoutcast or Cool streams etc. I have played around with various Policy rules and read what I can find on-line about Firestarter operation but the problem persists.

Now I know many of you will say don't bother with a Firewall but according to what I have read (Beginning Ubuntu Linux) a firewall runs on (K)Ubuntu by default anyway and Firestarter is just a way to control the iptables (for morons like me!).

Any ideas on what services should be allowed rather than using a global approach?

70's rock is great - the Yanks have some fab stations! (Yeah and I get my bus pass next year!!)

    Thanks Kubuntists.

    Hi leadwt,

sorry I can't help but am very interested in how you managed to get the radio in amarok working. So far I've never bothered further than the BBC but perhaps it's time to expand a little...

      Re: Firestarter & Streams

      Hi.

I just opened up Amarok and went into the playlists. If you look in Cool Streams or Shoutcast you'll find hundreds if not thousands of stations. Right click allows you to add to the playlist and same again gets them to play.

I did load a lot of plugins (mainly by guesswork) and also 'kde-restricted-extras'.

Works great! Eventually I will sort out which actual plug-ins I need but as an 'eternal noob' that will probably take years - meanwhile its the Stones Live!!!

      Rock on. Cheers
