    General Questions

So I switched from Ubuntu to Kubuntu with KDE, overall I think it's more glitzy and a little more stable. I think it might be a little faster for my architecture. Seems like the footprint is smaller also... but I can't be sure because my install of Ubuntu was based on an upgrade after upgrade.

    Processor AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3800+
    Memory 1997MB (252MB used)

    Hardinfo report:
    ZLib --- 22241.404
    Fibonacci --- 5.035
    MD5 --- 53.130
    SHA1 --- 77.422
    BlowFish --- 15.264
    Raytraching --- 11.110

So my question is does anyone have experience using Kubuntu on a HP 2013WM ? it's one of those through together prebuilts HP cranks out with XP on it. So I bought it and stripped that POS off... What specific performance tweaks can be done? I have tried some of the obvious, concurrency, writeback on the drive... etc...

Flash on 64 bit uses like 50%+ CPU sometimes....

I don't know your hardware, but here's some good general guidance for maximizing your Linux system performance:

    and here's some more:

EDIT: 50% CPU that's too much!

Ummmm... so does anyone else have similar hardware or some Hardinfo reports?

      apt-get install hardinfo

I would have to assume no one has had the same problem with Flash? it seems like it could be to do with Nvidia+flash.

          Do you mean
          Code:
          sudo apt-get install hwinfo
          ?

In KMenu>System>KInfoCenter there's a lot of hardware information, as well.

Did you mean to see the output of hwinfo?
