    add/Remove Programs crashing

    Today I did a clean install of Kubuntu 7.10 and when I go to add/remove programs and choose one I want to install it crashes.

    I see when it opens there are 2 adept installers and one add/remove programs and then it will only have 1 adept installer.

    Re: add/Remove Programs crashing

    This happened to me, I fixed it by removing adept and reinstalling from command line.

    apt-get remove --purge adept
    apt-get install adept

    Then update. Hope that helps.

        You say this is a fresh install, so...
        Install again. I'm guessing something got corrupted in the installation.

          Well it's not happening all the time. Sometimes it will install ok and sometimes it will crash.

          To me I've never been the type of person to reinstall a entire OS when there is a problem I don't see how you can learn that way. I've always taken my time on debugging the current issue.

            Re: add/Remove Programs crashing

            Is there any question about the quality of your Internet connection (like is this system using a wireless connection)? It seems like the common factor is that packages don't install correctly/completely. I don't know that Adept or Synaptic are hugely forgiving if your connection blinks out during the download of headers and package files.

            I'd recommend you look at the network connectivity and see if there's an issue there. Neither SheeEttin's suggestion nor your admirable attempts to troubleshoot it will do any good if your connection is the enemy.

            If it does turn out to be a connectivity issue, one thing you could consider is to make an Alternate Install DVD, which has a lot of the packages on it. That way you could get your basic setup done without relying on downloading. HTH

              Me neither, but if something's corrupted, you're not gonna get anywhere by trying to debug it.

                I agree - reinstalling vs trouble shooting is/should be a last resort.

                Do you have any problems getting into/using Adept Manager? If using Adept Manager, have you had similar results? Did you install Automatix, and have you used it

                  No wireless at all.

                  Internet seems fine. I am on a router and I tried using the add/remove when I was on the router and when I was off.

                  I can get into Adept ok and when trying to install the same file it crashes. ( Gmail Notify )
                  I stayed away from installing Automatix this time since I read about it when I was on 7.04

                  I've uninstalled all of Adpet using konsole and Synaptic and I still get the same results.

                  I tired MP3 support with konsole and got this.,

                  Code:
                  sudo /usr/lib/amarok/install-mp3
                  kapture::PkgSystem::PkgSystem()

                  kapture::PkgSystem::CreatePM()

                      I got it fixed now!

                      I was in the add/remove and went to edit sources and changed it from server from united states to Main server so maybe something in that list is crashing it. I installed MP3 support not problems and installed the others that were crashing with no problems.
