KDE does not allow full resolution

    Hi,

after updating to Gutsy Gibbon my KDE uses only a small fraction of the available screen. More precisely, the X Server apparently runs at 1600x1200 whereas at the same time KDE uses only the upper left corner of size 1024x768. In the KDE settings I can select only between 1024x768, 800x600 and 640x480. Similarly, the log-in screen uses only the upper left corner. What is going on?

I'm not posting any config or log files since up to now I have no idea which of them are relevant to this problem.

    Cheers,
    Simon

    What tells xrandr -q ?
xrandr - primitive command line interface to RandR extension

    Here:
    :~$ xrandr -q
    Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1680 x 1050, maximum 1680 x 1050
    default connected 1680x1050+0+0 0mm x 0mm

Hmm - do you two displays:

DVI connected is using 1600x1200 and LVDS connected 1024x768.

Re: KDE does not allow full resolution

Ah, I see. Maybe I should have added that I am running a laptop in a docking station. If I open the laptop, KDE fits perfectly into its screen, however, it does not on the regular external screen I am using.

However, it used to behave in a different way before the dist-upgrade. Usually, I don't open the laptop while it is in the docking station. But, if I remember correctly, when opening the laptop, the other screen used to become black and the laptop screen switched on at 1024x768.

          Cheers,
          Simon

Check /etc/X11/. Do you have earlier versions of xorg.conf (before upgrade) ?.
Something like xorg.conf.20070929181441. Compare old and new. What has changed ?
