    Mplayer and Firefox broken

I have been unable to get embedded videos (wmas) on websites working with Firefox and the mplayer plugins. (I've been using http://www.jaguars.com as my test site). I have Mplayer installed and working (it will play standalone videos in the application).

All the w32codecs are installed in /usr/lib/codecs and linked to /usr/lib/w32codecs. The mplayer plugins appear in aboutlugins. When I try viewing an embedded video, it starts to load, the link flashes on the mplayer screen and then says 'stopped' after a second. I cannot get the plugin to go full screen, as well.

Anyone had any success with this in Gutsy?

Sometimes - in my experience - the MPlayer plugin doesn't work properly; try the VLC or Xine plugin.

I have the same issue except I use the Dallascowboys.com as my site. It all worked fine in Feisty. In fact I still have Feisty installed and it still works with latest updates but gusty has not worked since RC2 or so. By the way I can't get VLC or Xine to work at all from within firefox it will only call mplayer. I have removed mplayer and the plug-in and Firefox still will not work. Konqueror works fine only it uses kmplayer which will not work in firefox at all. Guess the answer is to just dump Firefox and stick to konqueror but I am adicted to Foxmarks.

Check your /usr/lib/firefox/plugins/ directory and look for any entries having the name 'mplayer' in them; you will want to delete those. Also check for the VLC and/or Xine plugins, if they're not there, reinstall them and check again.

          Re: Mplayer and Firefox broken

I was having the same issues... searching my installed packages showed that mplayer wasn't fully installed.

Installing mplayer (and kmplayer) through Adept or Synaptic will likely fix your issue it did mine.

I had similar issues with Divx on Stage6. I got it working by updating swiftfox( Firefox built for different processes). So if any plugins arent working try updating your firefox/swiftfox.

              Re: Mplayer and Firefox broken

OK I have done everything suggested and it still does not work. All I get is a blank white screen and no attempted that I can see to load any player. Anymore suggestions?

              Correction:

I found that the vlc plug-in was not install correctly even though it was installed by adept. I uninstalled and reinstalled it and now it works. There are no controlls so I can't pause or fast forward the video Like I could with mplayer in the past but at least I can get it to work. kmplayer works a lot better in konqueror wished it worked in firefox as well.

              Thanks

Yeh, you have to use keyboard shortcuts with the VLC plugin :P
