can make upgrades but can't browse the net

I've just intalled Kubuntu 7.10 , I brought up a network connection ppp0 with a speedtouch usb modem, I can apt-get , but I can't surf the net using konqueror
I've installed firestarter, so I don't think it's an iptable issue
