Wireless freezes

I am trying to set up a Linux machine using a Dell Dimension 4300. (1.2 ghz Pentium4). The install went fine. It found my wireless network but freezes when it tries to connect.
Anyone have a clue? (and talk slowly- I'm new)

How are you trying to connect (what application are you using)?
