need help with boot from cd

ok, so it seems like me and linux might just not be meant to be because every turn of the way, i hit a snag....

i tried installing ubuntu and it just wouldn't load properly, so i'm now trying Gutsy Gibbon and i only get as far as the start up screen when i boot from the cd and then i can't do anything... all the keys seem to work expect for the enter key.. basically, i can't select an option.. weird??

now, i am a complete n00b, so i do apologize in advance for any ridiculous oversights..

Does the Live CD run on your hardware? There's something a little different with your hardware that is throwing off the installer. List your hardware (make and model of motherboard, CPU, and graphics) and it might be possible to work around the problem.
