keyboard super key (aka windows key) shortcuts no longer working

    upgraded to gutsy without compiz.
    went well.

    decided to try compiz, too.
    pushing my luck.

installed compiz, it annoyed the hell out of me especially in how it reassigned my keyboard shortcuts without asking.

    so uninstalled compiz.

but can't get my super key functions back, including both traditional ones [e.g. super+d for desktop] and ones i assigned [e.g. super+x for firefox].

have looked in kcontrol -> peripherals -> keyboard (nothing relevant there)
have attempted to modify system settings -> keyboard & mouse -> keyboard shortcuts -> current scheme to "windows scheme (with windows key)" which includes super+d for desktop, and also assigned my own including super+x for firefox.

i'm guessing that when i installed compiz, it overwrote my keyboard layout, and now, even though i've removed compiz (and also /home/[username]/.compiz) something is still preventing me from reassigning the super key.

can anyone tell me where it is, and what i need to do?

thanks and best wishes. gutsy seems pretty good so far (have had a few crashes, but those might have been my fault). but compiz, while pretty, is too invasive. the reassignment of keys without even asking, for example . . .

    best wishes

Sorry I cant help but I am also having problems with my keyboard, upgraded to Gutsy and got compiz working well after about 3 days, with help from this forum,it ran well for about 3 days then my keyboard died.
I am logged in on my wifes desktop to write this if you wondered how I managed to type without a keyboard.
My wife is not running compiz so I guess its a compiz bug, but if anyone has any ideas how to solve this, obviously I cant enter a password to uninstall compiz, I cant write to a terminal to remove it or give my wife root privileges to access the package manager.

my super key is back. why, exactly, i'm not sure. but this worked.

kde control center -> kde components -> session manager

on login, radial button to "start with an empty session"

some extant compiz keyboard config must have needed to be flushed

but i wanted to do this anyway, so, joy!
