I can't see the bar that allows me to close,minimize or maximize the window.Any suggestions?

You have the famous (or infamous) "missing window decorator" problem. If you Google that, you'll get about 750,000 hits.
Basically, you need to have glx and compositing enabled. I have had it working for some time with Beryl on Feisty (Kubuntu and Ubuntu), on an Nvidia card. Don't know a lot about those other cards ....
Post more details about your hardware configuration, and may some help will materialize.
