Is it possible to get Thunderbird to put new mail notifications somewhere in the task bar, the way Windows installations of Thunderbird do?

The way I upgraded Thunderbird (not from Adept) was extract the the "thunderbird" folder from the Thunderbird site to /usr/lib/ and using K Menu Editor, I edited the link to point to '/usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird' . The last "thunderbird" is the script to run it.
