    Open Office

I need to install additional dictionary files in Open Office 2.2.

I go Files -> Vizards -> Install new dictionaries.

And get just a request: Do I want to remake fix the broken OOo.dic file or some other file.

I don't know if this is a K/Ubuntu problem, a Debian problem, a Linux problem or an Open Office for Linux problem. It's no problem in the Windows version.

It's not specific to this PC; as I have one more Kubuntu Feisty Fawn PC, and exactly the same thing happens there.

In the Norwegian Open Office user forum it is suggested to run Open Office as super user when doing this, so I did KDESU soffice & from the run command line - but no help.

Anyone experienced, heard of or even better, know how to fix this?

    Re: Open Office

on my box, open office crashed when i tried to install my dictionaries.

    solution:
i went into synaptic (perhaps you use adept) and checked openoffice's packages.
    searched "openoffice".
for one reason or another, the package "openoffice.org-base" was not installed.
notice that my oo was working fine despite this.
anyway, i selected that package for install and installed it (along with other packages automatically selected).

after that the wizard worked all right.

if you run oo as a normal user, the dictionary will be installed for that user's use only.
if you start oo with kdesu, then you can install the dictionary system wide.
    or so i gathered, anyway.

        Re: Open Office

so if i don't have base (the database program) i can't have dicctionaries added, that does no seem normal... are you sure that you mean base, is there a dependency of some sort?

i did not investigate this any further.
of course it doesn't make a lot of sense.
the missing package could have been: openoffice.org-java-common
which is listed in the dependencies of base, but not in the others.
if you find out exactly what it is, pls, post back here.
          cheers.
